Hi Friends,
Another Friday is here, and it gives me a chance to sit down with you again. This time of year always feels busy, but it is a good kind of busy. Families gather, meals get planned, and
most people take a little break from research. That is fine. It is good to rest a bit. Even so, it takes only a few minutes to look at a record or two, and sometimes those short moments are when surprises show up. It is all part of the fun we have together here.
We have a full week of new things on Ancestral Findings. Our Christmas Traditions series is
in full swing. This week alone, we looked at England, Germany, the Netherlands, and Ireland. More are coming, all the way to December 25. If you enjoy learning how your ancestors kept Christmas long ago, this series is one you will not want to miss. Each new chapter gives you
a picture of how families in other places lived, believed, and gathered during the season.
There is also a new free book offer running right now. You can enter to win DNA: A Guide for Family
Historians. It is open through December 25. This is a clear and steady guide that explains DNA in a way that is simple to follow. You will see how DNA can answer questions that records alone cannot. If you have been curious about adding DNA tools to your research, now is a good time to jump in.
New
ebooks were added this week, too, including Genealogy Helps, Volume 10 and the newly republished Genealogy Helps, Volume 9. Each one gives you practical ideas you can put to use right away.
Whether you want to organize your sources, learn new places to look, or just enjoy a good read, these books make the work easier.
We also posted the usual This Week’s Free Genealogy
Lookups. Char handles these each week, and she put together a new set for you. This week’s lookups include:
Early Georgia Settlers, the 1700s-1800s
Early South Carolina Settlers, 1600s-1800s
Colonial New Jersey Source Records, 1600s-1800s
Early Kentucky Settlers, the
1700s-1800s
Early West Virginia Settlers, 1600s-1900s
If you need help with any of
these, Char is ready to assist. People write in each week with new requests, and it is always a joy to see what discoveries come from these records.
A few people have asked how they can support the work we do here. I really appreciate your help. It allows us to keep the website running, post articles every week, and offer free lookups. If you feel led
to help, you can find the ways to do that on this page: https://ancestralfindings.com/support
That is the news for this week. I look forward to sharing more with you as Christmas gets closer. Even if your December is
full, you can keep your research close by. A little progress here and there adds up faster than you think.
Happy Searching!
Will
