Hi Friends,
It’s Friday, and that means it’s time to look back at what was new this week at Ancestral Findings.
This week, we looked at how to prepare before using the National Archives, especially when you want your research time to count. The National Archives can hold military files, immigration records, land records, court
records, pension files, and many other documents, but it helps to know what you’re looking for before you begin. A little planning can save a lot of time.
I also shared a Memorial Day article about the stories
behind the sacrifice. It’s a reminder that military research is about more than names on a page. Each record can point to a real person, a real family, and a life touched by war.
There was also a new article on immigration and naturalization records. These records can help you follow an ancestor from one country to another and may reveal ship names, arrival dates, ports, witnesses, addresses, and court details.
This week’s free genealogy lookups are also available. The featured databases include marriage indexes for Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Massachusetts, Missouri, and more.
And don’t forget the current book giveaway. I’m giving away a copy of Who Do You Think You Are?: The Essential Guide to Tracing Your Family History. The giveaway ends June 1 at midnight.
Happy Searching!
