Welcome to This Week's Photography Newsletter!
Â
I may not be fully back into
the swing of photography; as some of you know, I’m handling a few health challenges. But with this time, I’ve had the chance to go back through my older photos—digging up images I once dismissed or just overlooked. It’s surprising how many shots I thought weren’t “keepers” at first have
turned out to hold something special. Sometimes it takes stepping back and returning later to see the potential in our work.
Â
In this newsletter, I’m sharing some thoughts on a few things that have come up for me recently. First, we must be a bit merciless with our own work. I know it sounds harsh! But part of being creative is learning to look critically at what we produce and make tough calls. This self-critique isn’t about tearing down our confidence but about sharpening our skills, and I talk about ways to build that confidence in your photography—even if you’re not
quite there yet.
Â
I’m also diving into the idea of “second chances.” Often, we
revisit a favorite place to take photos, hoping for the same magic, but things change. That second visit? It’s a fresh chance to see things differently and capture something new.
Â
Lastly, I reflect on why we make photographs in the first place. Is it for fame, money, or something deeper? I share my own reasons and invite you to think about yours.
Â
I’m also excited to share my postcard giveaway with you all! Over the years, I’ve gathered thousands of postcards, each with its own bit of history and personality. Rather than keeping them tucked away, I’d love to share them with anyone
interested. So, if you’re a fan of vintage postcards or enjoy a little surprise in the mail, you can sign up here. I’ll give away ten postcards at a time, drawing a new winner every month—or even sooner. It’s my way of sharing a piece of my collection with those who’d
appreciate it, and I can’t wait to pass along these little snapshots of history.
Â
As always, I hope this inspires you to keep exploring, creating, and appreciating this incredible art form. Thanks for being along for the ride, and let’s keep learning together.
Â
Happy
shooting!
